The rippled lines on your skin, which can form in different colors (ranging from bluish pink to brown), are quite common in pregnancy.
Though it concerns many mothers, other than the visual appeal, there is no
cause for concern for the baby. It happens due to several factors like hormonal
changes in the body, and depends to a certain degree on genetics.
Stretch marks or
striae gravidarum occurs mostly on the tummy area, but can also affect the
upper thighs, hips and/or breasts.
It’s not always
possible to prevent stretch marks, but it does help to have a balanced diet and
maintain a healthy weight gain.
Many creams and
lotions on the market claim to help with stretch marks, but there is no
concrete evidence for the same.
Laser and other
cosmetic treatments are known to improve the appearance of stretch marks. The
good news is that these marks naturally fade to a light pink/ grey color over
time, though they will never completely go away.
It is always best to
accept this is a natural change in your body as part of your beautiful journey
through pregnancy.
